Food is Medicine

Updated: Sep 13, 2022

We were on vacation recently with my daughter in Oregon. Within three days, at her request we visited a Whole Foods Market three times. Of all the places that we could have picked to eat, that’s where she wanted to go. We were on the west coast where eating healthy is almost part of the culture. However, healthy eating choices are becoming the norm all over the country, even here in the good ole’ Ozarks, where fat and sugar and grease are celebrated.

Hippocrates, known as the founder and Father of Medicine, is quoted as saying “Let food be thy medicine and medicine be thy food.” The founder of what is now modern medicine believed that a wide variety of different foods was the best diet for health and prevention. I do believe that food choices are one of our best sources of prevention and disease treatment…not just what we avoid but what we actually pursue and intentionally make a part of a regular eating routine (such as avocados, nuts, green vegetables, citrus fruits, beans, and all manner of plant fats, proteins, and carbs).

I recently heard a very good podcast interview about using food as medicine by a Harvard-trained Internal Medicine physician, Dr. William Li. It is worth listening to and can be found at the following link:

I intend to continue to make a wide variety of healthy foods a cornerstone of my diet, especially as I round the bend of age 55. My goal is to live to be 120 with good health and a sound mind!

I’m Dr. Jon Clark and have been in practice for 24 years. When I was 16, Jesus Christ changed my life. Everything good in my life has come from giving my life to Jesus. If you need a fresh start and would like to know Jesus, the Bible says that if you believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, you will be saved. If you make this life-changing decision, give our office a call and let us know.
